| How Sacha Baron Cohen Keeps From Getting Sued.. |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|11:25 pm] |
On Friday night, I went to see “Bruno.” I laughed. (Hardest at the part where Bruno goes camping with a bunch of rednecks and, as they sit around the campfire, he asks them which “Sex and the City” character they are.) I cried. (When Bruno’s velcro suit caused chaos at a fashion show, and he’s shunned by the entire Austrian fashion community.) I squirmed uncomfortably in my seat. (When a mom agrees that her 4-year-old would have liposuction in order to land a modeling gig. And again when Bruno crashes a swinger’s party and is repeatedly whipped by a woman with nipple rings. Now that I think about it, at least 40% of the scenes in the movie were squirm-worthy.) But as I left the theater, one big question kept running through my mind—how does Sacha Baron Cohen get away with these stunts without getting sued a hundred times a day? Back during “Da Ali G Show” days, things were much simpler. Sacha Baron Cohen would send out interview requests under the guise of being a British production company called United World Productions. When interview subjects arrived, they were greeted by a clean cut, legitimate-looking director. It wasn’t until the red light on the camera blinked that Sacha Baron Cohen made his appearance. Things got a little more complicated for “Borat.” Producers focused scenes in rural areas, where not nearly so many people have cable television. When producers pre-interviewed subjects, they threw in questions to make sure that they’d never heard of Ali G or Borat or Sacha Baron Cohen. The producers would give all subjects a release form which, conveniently, didn’t identify where the footage would be appearing. Often times, they’d hand out release forms en masse. “We’d have someone in the lobby of a hotel with release forms,” director Larry Charles told Squidoo. “We’d tell people we were shooting today and they may be in the background of a shot. Then they’d get in the elevator and, boom, two naked guys would come running in.” Most people were so quick to sign the forms that they didn’t notice any irregularities. The crew also had a lawyer who they ran through all their plans with. The lawyer helped determine the line between okay and way too much. ( So what about Bruno? ) source.
Sorry mods that I initially didn't bold but I didn't think I needed to since the article isn't that long and it's all pretty interested. But fixed anyway =)

| AFI News: Crash Love Press Release, Some Song Titles Revealed |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|08:16 pm] |
Nasty Little Man, AFI's PR Company, has just posted the following press release. It includes 3 previously unknown song titles: "Veronica Sawyer Smokes", "End Transmission" and "Beautiful Thieves."
--------------------------------- AFI: CRASH LOVE OUT SEPTEMBER 29 ---------------------------------

Hunter Burgan, Davey Havok, Jade Puget and Adam Carson, collectively known as AFI, will be releasing their eighth studio album, CRASH LOVE, September 29 on DGC/Interscope Records.
Produced by Joe McGrath and Jacknife Lee and two years in the making, CRASH LOVE is possibly AFI’s most focused, direct and ambitious effort to date. On standout tracks including “Medicate,” “Veronica Sawyer Smokes,” “End Transmission,” “Beautiful Thieves” and more, Puget, Burgan and Carson’s inimitable chemistry shines more brightly than ever while Havok’s lyrics reach beyond his trademark abstract introspection, delving into examination and dissection of celebrity culture from within and without.
“Honestly I’ve never been more proud of an AFI record,” said Havok. “We are thrilled to hear it come to life.”
During CRASH LOVE’s recording, the members of AFI were joined at Los Angeles’ Conway Studios by the winners of the band’s Begin Transmission contest, in which the band members personally went through thousands of fan-made video submissions and chose a handful of entrants to contribute backing vocals to the new album. Honorable Mentions also chosen by the band each received a handmade Valentines Day card by the member of AFI who chose him or her.
CRASH LOVE follows up two consecutive platinum AFI albums, 2006’s DECEMBERUNDERGROUND which entered the U.S. chart at #1 and 2003’s SING THE SORROW. AFI’s discography also includes the full lengths THE ART OF DROWNING (2000), BLACK SAILS IN THE SUNSET (1999), SHUT YOUR MOUTH & OPEN YOUR EYES (1997), VERY PROUD OF YA (1996) and ANSWER THAT AND STAY FASHIONABLE (1995).

| The Best Albums Of 2009 (So Far) |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|09:59 pm] |

The actual midway point of 2009 occurred on July 2, one week after the death of arguably the greatest entertainer of our generation. It was a pretty somber way to cap off the first 182.5 days of the year and, obviously, pretty much everyone's attention was turned to eulogizing the King of Pop (myself included ... twice over).
One piece I had intended on writing was my annual mid-year "Best Of" list, taking a look at my favorite albums released so far. And, well, here it is. There's lots of ground to cover, and I used a lot of words to do it (more than 2,000?! Jeez ... ), so let's get right to it. Here are my picks — some honorable mentions and a straightforward Top 10 — for the Best Albums of 2009 (So Far). ( Read more... )

I got an application at Wendy's. I got an application at Dunkin Donuts.
WHICH one should I apply to?
I feel I'm a good fit at both.
Or should I just focus on college.

| Photos of Michael Jackson Show Signs of Vitiligo and Needle Punctures |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|07:59 pm] |
Exclusive photos of Michael Jackson obtained by ABC News show a serious wound on the pop star's right leg, which a medical expert said appears to be surrounded by unusual needle punctures.
"On the photographs of Michael Jackson, it looks like there was necrosis on his lower leg where there might have been fluid that went into his lower leg," a possible result of an IV that had leaked into the leg, Dr. Debra Jaliman, a leading dermatologist and spokeswoman for the American Academy of Dermatology, told ABC News. "It looks like there are multiple puncture points from IV placement," she said. The wound seen in the photos, which were taken in 2002, could have been a result of contact with highly caustic, acidic fluid that would burn the skin and cause it to turn black, Jaliman said. ( More and slightly disturbing photos under the cut )</div>

| Jamie Lynn Spears and Casey Aldridge Split |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|07:50 pm] |

Just like teen couple Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston before them, some people just grow up and move on…
A source said, “Casey proposed when Jamie turned 17. He gave her a gold band with numerous diamonds and one larger stone, but now she has given it back to him. Jamie wasn’t ready to get married. It’s been more than enough for her to adjust to new motherhood for now.”
Stay tuned as details become available…
Update: A source has revealed that ever since his accident, Casey has been sleeping on the couch. Jamie got fed up and kicked him out. I guess she had grown tired of his couch surfing for this whole time.
Insiders have said that this has been a long time coming.
We’ll have more details as they become available.

| kate moss to become #1 business woman |
[Jul. 14th, 2009|09:51 pm] |
SupermodelKate Moss will partly own of shows like America's Got Talent & The X Factor

Simon Cowell, the acerbic judge on "American Idol," is joining forces with supermodel Kate Moss and Sir Philip Green, a billionaire retailer, to create "a global entertainment super- company to rival Disney," according to the U.K. paper the Daily Mail.
The plan would have the new company "own all the rights and content of the TV programmes Cowell produces, including 'Britain's Got Talent,' 'The X Factor' and 'America's Got Talent,'" the Mail reports.
The company would be owned by Cowell and Green. They would hire Moss for up to $80 million to handle branding and style for the new company, which the Mail says will "straddle showbusiness and fashion."
The Mail quotes one unnamed source as saying about Moss's role in the new venture, "She will also be involved in finding and signing new bands and promoting them. Something that has also been talked about is Kate developing her own singing career and starting a music label.
"She has a big network of people they have no access to and they want her to make the new venture hip, and not so nerdy, and up-to-date..."

| BRUNO BANNED |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|09:38 pm] |
Sacha Baron Cohen's latest movie Brüno has been banned in the Ukraine, according to reports.
The recent box office hit was formally forbidden to be shown in the country a week prior to its opening, says E!.

The former Soviet nation's Culture Ministry labelled the comedy "immoral", and cited its foul language and depiction of sexual imagery as "obscene and improper". The bureau also claimed that viewing of the film could have the potential to "cause damage to public morals".
"[Brüno is an] artistically unjustified exhibition of sexual organs and sexual relations, homosexual acts in a blatantly graphic form, obscene language, sadism and antisocial behavior which could damage the moral upbringing of our citizens," the group added.
It was reported earlier this week that the British Board of Film Classification gave the picture an 18 certificate. However, it was later re-released with a 15 certificate after certain scenes were cut.
